Types of Emergency and Disaster Events

Many people want to know what is the best survival knife, or the best backpack, or what foods to stock, etc. The answer is always the same: It depends. It would be great if we could come up with a "one size fits all" disaster survival kit that would cover you in any situation. Unfortunately the reality of it is that if you want to be ready, you have to know what you are getting ready for. You have to know where you will be, what you will need, where you will go, and what you will do. The supplies that will keep you alive when you wonder off a hiking trail and get lost in the woods aren't necessarily the same supplies you want when your boat engine dies 200 miles from shore on the ocean. Each emergency situation you get into will have a different set of survival gear associated with it. In any given location you could be subject to several types of natural disasters or man made events. It is up to you to know what to be ready for where you live and where you travel. Use the following links to learn more about different natural disasters and man made emergency situations. Each page has information on what to expect in the different situations, and the survival gear you can use to get you through them.
